Our Mission

Habitat for Humanity San Luis Obispo County brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.

Bringing People Together

The focus of Habitat’s mission is not simply the construction of houses, but also the development and empowerment of people and communities. Habitat is invested creating an environment where people come together towards a common goal. We build strength, stability and self reliance through homeownership.

Building Homes…

Using volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money and materials, Habitat for Humanity builds and rehabilitates homes with the help of future homeowners, volunteers, and community partners.

Houses are sold to low-income families through affordable mortgages. Mortgages are issued over a fixed period. Monthly mortgage payments are used to support the construction of more houses.

Communities…

In 2011 we introduced the Neighborhood Revitalization initiative with the goal to connect neighbors, improve quality of life, and empower the community. This program provides resources and leadership, allowing neighbors to come together and establish safe, vibrant neighborhoods, and a legacy of strength, stability, and self-reliance.

Habitat for Humanity San Luis Obispo County strives to reflect the diversity of beliefs in our area. Habitat welcomes the involvement of anyone who believes in our mission and recognizes the importance of affordable housing in San Luis Obispo. We seek to reflect nationalities, occupations, income levels, and age groups of our community. Such diversity offers a wide range of experience and perspectives and provides a strong base of operation.

Our programs seek to create a sense of empowerment among residents, encouraging locals to take charge in their neighborhoods and create safe, vibrant communities they can enjoy for generations.
